79. I turned 5 in summer 1969, began kindergarten in fall
Don't remember a whole lot...

Sesame Street began that year, as did HR Pufnstuff and Scooby Doo; Hogan's Heroes was still in its first run.

My Dad gave me a quarter to buy candy at the corner store (where their penny candy was mostly 2 for a penny), and I came home with a paper sack full of candy that I shared with my older brothers. Mostly things like root beer barrels, Mary Janes, Squirrel Nut Zippers, caramel cremes, Bit-o-Honey, licorice, Tootsie Rolls, Smarties, Bazooka Joe bubble gum.

One of the play songs the kindergarten teacher would lead us in was "One Little, Two Little, Three Little Indians." Our reading book was the first Dick, Jane and Sally book ("Run, Spot, run. See Spot run.")

People smoked *everywhere* - the dentist office waiting room, the grocery store, teachers smoked on the playground. Stores usually wouldn't sell you cigarettes unless you looked at least 12.
