| 77. Yosemite is another world entirely. |
|
As far as the famous waterfalls are concerned, they are at their best in late May and early June. I would plan your trip to Yosemite during that period (May 15 to June 15, except don't go on Memorial Day weekend as it is too crowded). On your first trip to Yosemite you should go during the waterfall season. On subsequent trips you can go at any time of year, though the "upper park" (Tioga Road and Tuolumne Meadows, as well as Glacier Point) is generally open only half the year, from late May or early June through about the end of October. For hiking in the high country, even as late as September or even early October is still good, but by then the big, famous waterfalls are just a trickle or even totally dry. I would recommend your first visit to Yosemite be either May 23-27, 2011 or May 31-June 3, 2011. Book your lodgings now, as many places sell out a year in advance. There is a generous cancellation policy, in most cases a week or two or even a couple of days before your trip you can still cancel with no penalty. If you have any other questions just ask and I will be glad to help you plan a trip to Yosemite.
