You call it being an opportunistic fuckhead, I call it self preservation. No matter how pissed off he is now, he can't kill her because he would instantly be the prime suspect. His money and fame can no longer shield him.

When you're getting the shit beat out of you (and let's not forget she has a baby to also protect now), then yes, you should be selfish.
