39. Here's another vote for a window unit
We did that when our compressor went out in the old house. I had just had shoulder surgery, it was July in Florida with high heat and humidity. With my arm strapped to my side, I could not take the heat. We got a little one room AC window unit intending to just cool the bedroom, but it was strong enough to cool the living room and bathroom, too. It pretty much saved my life and sanity.

When a friend's AC went out a few years later, we lent it to her - it's still around here somewhere but I don't know where.
