35. I did go by myself. It was the summer after I graduated from
High School in 1963. At that time, you could actually hike into places in the Sierras and not see anyone else. That's no longer the case, I'm afraid. Even the remotest spots will have a small population in the summer now.

Backpacking wasn't even really a popular thing to do back then, and the equipment wasn't as light or well-designed. My parents weren't exactly thrilled about my solo trip, but didn't object too strenuously.

Sadly, I didn't take a camera with me.
