Whatever happened to the "¢" key?!?

I've noticed that people have to write "My $0.02" or "My 2 cents" when they are sharing one of their revered, closely-held opinions. Both of these options are outrageously burdensome. You'd think in this crazy space-age world of the future we'd have some kind of internet shorthand to indicate cents, akin to 'LOL', 'WTF' or 'OMGZ'.

What displaced the humble '¢' from its position along the top row of the keyboard? I personally blame '^', or perhaps even '!', which back in the day was formed by typing an apostrophe, then a backspace, then a '.' Just like using a lower case 'l' to indicate the number '1'. That was good enough!

Recommending this thread will show you are a dedicated activist who is committed to reconciling this outrage. The fact that Lounge posts do not make it to the 'Greatest' page should NOT deter you.

My 2¢.
