94. Wow! Just at Gettysburg on Friday, and work in DC. Tips, and a question.
We had lunch at a restaurant just south of Gettysburg in the little town of Emmitsburg, MD. It was the Carriage House Inn, and it's pretty hokey (think Grandma's attic), but a lovely place with excellent food. http://www.carriagehouseinn.info/. Everything was good, but definitely go for the soups - my dining partners had the cream of crab and loved it, and I had French onion, which was also good. Gettysburg can be such a tourist trap; I recommend the five mile or so drive to Emmitsburg.

The new Visitor Center is extraordinary. Unfortunately, a Friday late in the school year brought out a couple thousand kids, which was not optimal. But give yourself plenty of time there. We probably should have provided for more time; did not expect the overwhelming amount of info. The 20-minute movie narrated by Morgan Freeman is great; the Cyclorama less so. You are in a static position, and it's tough to really see it as it should be seen. See it, though (automatic after the movie). Also, we really enjoyed visiting the David Wills House in downtown Gettysburg. That's new, and it's where Lincoln stayed the night before the Gettysburg Address. Worth a visit, and the price of admission.

Where are you staying in DC? If you get a chance, visit our favorite restaurant, Sergio's, in Silver Spring. Great Italian, and just a wonderful place for dinner (reasonable, too). It's in the Hilton Hotel, but don't let that throw you - it's been family owned for years and years. Here's TripAdvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g41378-d515971-Reviews-Sergio_s_Restaurante_Italiano-Silver_Spring_Maryland.html.

I need to know what area of DC you will be staying in before making further recommendations. Enjoy!
