He died on my 8th birthday. At the time, I'd heard the name, but never really knew the music or what he did. Of course, that fall, every kid at school had an "Elvis-- The King Forever" t-shirt, so pretty soon everybody knew who he was.
(Better yet-- it was usually the Vegas-era Elvis that was on the t-shirts-- not the rebel 1950s Elvis).
