23. This has never made a lot of sense to me
I mean, I think I understand the sentiment behind what you're saying but it's logically flawed. First of all, what is the criteria for being "able to support them?" How much is enough? Second, it doesn't take into account all the things that usually contribute to people NOT being able to take care of their kids. Like divorce. Or the death of a spouse. Or catastrophic medical conditions that deplete savings.

But besides that, its the same sort of attitude the drill, baby drill crowd has about non-renewable resources. "I should be able to drive a Hummer because I can afford the gas." It doesn't take into account how one person's actions affect everyone else. Overuse of resources means less resources for everyone - whether its gas or all the resources extra people use.

I don't believe in setting limits on how many children people can have - or on what kind of car they drive, for that matter. I do believe in educating people about the consequences of their choices and offering incentives for making better choices.
