Growing up in Ohio and moving to the Northeast, there was an amazing change in the way people viewed the midwest. In NYC, they considered themselves better than anyone else in the nation. One of the funniest was about california's being slower because they were all getting too much sun.  My wife, from NY had never been west of the Hudson River (except for one trip to Philly) until she was in her late 20's.
