115. I think the problem is that dog leashes were invented first
Had child leashes been invented first, and then some smart person figured out that this would be a terrific way to control a dog, then of course there would be arguments about how anyone could treat their dog like a child! (which of course there are anyway)

So if you object to the use of this technique with a child, ask yourself why that is. If a mother were a paraplegic with no use of her arms, and had to use such a tether because she couldn't hold her child's hand, would you still object? If not, then why object for anyone? It's an extension of the guardian's hand/arm, why does it matter how long it is or what material it's made of? The purpose is the same.

And to those who suggest that in days past these weren't used or needed, then I'd also remind you that there also used to be a time when adults routinely slapped or spanked or otherwise roughly handled their children in public -- nowadays that sort of thing is often promptly reported to police. I wonder if there's any connection
