....we were doing a deposition of a man in a products liability suit who said his grill had flared up and severely burned him.

He was talking about after he had been burned and he was being airlifted to the hospital, and one of the EMS personnel said to him, "This guy is going to need a priest to give him last rites. He's not going to make it."

And at that point, and I have no idea why, I laughed. I didn't laugh because it was funny. I laughed out of a reaction to the statement because it was so horrific to even think about. It was so outrageous. It was very weird.

And the client then gave me a look I would never forget. And I felt very, very bad.

That firm didn't hire me as an attorney after I graduated. To this day, I think that this may have been the reason why.
