12. Bix was from my town
In fact there is an annual Jazz festival named for him every July. But he was a drug addict so why is there an annual fest named after him? It is a question I have asked numerous times and the answer seems to be money.
See, we also have a world class Blues Fest here and it gets nowhere near the pub the Bix fest gets even though we outdraw and outclass the Bix fest each and every year. But the Bix Fest has some surrounding events which make it go and the Blues Fest is all about the music. And only about the music. No street closings for the Blues Fest. In fact, if you are a fan, July 3, 4, and 5 are the dates of the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest this year. C'mon out!
