21. It isn't 'obvious' they last longer

Because I've had numerous and diverse pairs of jeans from numerous and diverse manufacturers that were inexpensive, and without fail they lost their shape, split, and just plain wore out fast.
I'm glad you've had good experiences with your 40 year old jeans, but that isn't proof positive they all last the same.

Brand loyalty is with merit, if that brand makes a really high quality product that lasts a long time. I know they look better, not because of the higher price tag, but because they do. And some jean styles are classic. My Olsen jeans I've had for four years now, and they aren't out of style, because they're a classic. I've had to re-buy the same style because of a change in size.

Classic clothing is an investment. I'll go cheap on some things, things I know I won't wear often, or will go out of style fast, but things like jeans, dress pants, and work staples I'm willing to shell out a lot of money for if they're proven high quality and long lasting. It is an investment, because they last and look good for years and years, instead of going to Zellers and replacing it with something cheap every few months.

I guess each persons experience is different. But your personal experience doesn't match up with mine, so I wouldn't jump the gun on the 'sad' comments. Not that it's surprising.
