I visited a friend and she had a German friend who decided to drop out of grad school and see America. So after I went back home he came to visit me and stayed on my couch until my bf got really uncomfortable with it and then I found some male friends who would take him for a few days and so on. Then I realize what his game was... He was breaking the rules of his fellowship by doing this and really didn't have much money to spend. He expected strangers to host him and entertain him for nothing. I don't know how he paid for airfare around the country. It creeps my out that I let this guy stay in my apartment when I really didn't know anything about him and I wouldn't do it again.
