Reply #21: You know, I've actually had a few great bosses in my day

A fantastic bookstore manager or two, and the manager who preceded the incompetent VP of a local news Web site (see post above). Funnily enough, they always seem to be replaced by total boobs. I think the good bosses fight the good fight against the owners who only care about the bottom line (had one owner looking for his "paycheck" and when didn't see it deposited in his vast bank account the very second he figured it should be there, called from an airport, SCREAMING into the phone, "IT'S MY MONEY!!!!") Then the good guys become exhausted from the fight (one bookstore manager I had quit to bake bread in Arizona), and the owners hire someone far more malleable. Trouble is, those malleable folks are also complete morons. It's a pattern.
