I was the lone almost-ex-Catholic/Christians in a class of seminary-bound Methodists. It was a very interesting language to study: we read/translated/parsed the whole NT, learned about the origins of the NT documents and the various translations, read commentaries, did exegeses, etc.
You had to get over the alphabet, but that was pretty quick. And, if you've studied any Latin, the grammar and language structure is often very similar.
