I took way too long before getting one, and it's made a world of positive difference. Morons will occasionally ask "what's the cane for?" to which I usually reply, "for shoving up the asses of people who ask stupid questions" (or words to that effect). Normally, though, it's a great way to get people out of the way. I've even taken to leaning on it extra-heavily when I want to look a bit pitiful and get someone else to do the heavy lifting (sadly, my wife caught on to this one quickly, so I can't use it on her).
