My cat sits on my arm and slobbers.

My almost three year-old cat, Gandalf the Grey, has developed the annoying habit of climbing onto my arm, purring. I began to notice wet spots on my arm. I assumed that he was nursing off my shirt sleeve or my blankets, but a couple of weeks ago I noticed slobber dripping from his mouth - enough that I had to grab a kleenex and wipe it off.

It's disgusting and it immobilizes my right arm so I can't type. Why does my cat slobber?
