13. Too expensive and the flavor is a too heavy
I do not endorse deep frying anything in olive oil. First of all the good olive oils are too expensive to use for deep frying. Second, as many say, smoke tolerance is too low. Third, the olive oil flavor is too heavy IMHO.
It's great for saute, salad dressings, dipping, marinades, sauces, add infinitum. But deep frying?
If you want to deep fry go with peanut oil(careful of allergies), canola oil, vegetable shortening, and I have seen some recommend grape seed oil for deep frying. They recommend it because it has nearly no flavor. I have seen it in the stores but it is not cheap so those who do use it will reuse it a number of times over if they are deep frying in it on a small scale.
