I wouldn't put cows on the same level as people, but they do have feelings. That much is true. I agree with you that people need help first and I appreciate your insight into this topic. I have struggled with it for years. I have tried vegetarianism. I couldn't afford to do it and still stay healthy. I just couldn't handle it. One day someone pointed out to me that even animals eat other animals. It's the way of carnivores and omnivores. Your post has stated quite clearly the fact that a person can appreciate the intelligence of an animal and still be a meat eater.

I do hate it when DU'ers get into intense flamefests over topics like this. May I make a suggestion that if this topic is your (meaning anyone reading this) "hot button," please try to take any jokes made with a grain of salt and realize that there is nothing gained by arguing with your allies and just move on.
