Back in the mid-eighties, I had my vasectomy and the only grief was a counseling session and some temporarily bloody ejaculate. Shortly thereafter, my wife got a nice tubal with even less hassle than I had experienced.

You should, by rights, be able to do what you want in this regard, and it makes me sad and angry that you can't.
