They are definitely worth buying as you'll never be able to finish before you need to return it. They both come bundled together now at a very reasonable price.
Also, if you're a Simpsons fan, check out The Simpsons: Hit & Run. It's a lot like GTA3 and is absolutely hilarious. It just doesn't have machine guns, flame throwers and molotov cocktails.
