1. Forget the "chain" gyms.
Nasty looking people use the machines, sweat all over them and then don't wipe them off. If you have an extra room in the house, find some used exercise equipment at yard sales, buy some free-weights, a mat and that's about all you need. Plus if you get out of the exercise habit the old equipment is great to hang clothes on.
