5. In the 1980s and early 90s
there was the televangelist Jim Bakker who operated the "Praise the Lord Club" (PTL Club for short). He was convicted on several charges, mainly conning his viewers/supporters out of their cash. For example: "If you send me $100 I will pray for your loved one... etc." One case in particular was his Christian theme park where families could buy time shares. Basically, he sold more than was available and was caught.
