1. No you're not old

And I learned a lesson w/ a similar episode in my home recently. Though the young man in my home had been in some trouble before, It was not along the lines of parties and or illegal substances.

But I came home to drunk kids in my house.

And yeah, the liability issue is scary, but nothing is more scary than losing your credibility w/ other parents. I think I salvaged mine by actually calling some parents up and telling them that while I was out, the kids got into mischief. I suppose I could have said nothing, and then hoped that the kids avoided detection when they got home (none of the drivers were intoxicated) but instead, I took the honesty route and managed to save some face.

It's tough to think that you have to hire a sitter for older teenagers, but honestly, sometimes, you have to.

It would be especially good if parents would talk to each other about which house the kids are at and whether or not there will be supervision. There have been a number of instances when I come home to find that the kids have company, and I wish that they didn't when I'm not there. I've had to call the parents of these other kids and say, "Please don't send XXXXX over when I'm not there. You can always check w/ me by calling my cell phone."
