19. Totally perverse
I think we could fix most of our health care problems in this country by passing a law that HMO's and hospitals have to be non-profit. The insurance companies and other leeches would get out, and there would be plenty of people with good intentions to take over. I know for a fact that Kaiser would do everything they could to provide assistance.

Having said that, I should confess that two of our hospitals killed patients (total of two patients) over the summer with medication errors. Those things happen in all health care settings, and I don't know that we're any worse than anyone else about them. I do know that Kaiser will settle with the families rather than throw up legal impediments. I know that because I work in Medical Legal and see all the malpractice cases against our medical center.
