I'm using Firebird (if you use Mozilla you should give it a try!) and it stops all unrequested popup ads. Which is nice since sometimes you need to see a popup when you click on something (like, say, clicking on a thumbnail image to see the high resolution version).
But there's a tricky way around this. Web authors can use an onMouseOver javascript event to open a new window too. That means if you hover your mouse over just about anything, text, images, tables, the whole document even, you can cause a popup to open, even in Mozilla because, see, you requested it.
I've never seen a WalMart ad popup before. And the way web ads work the individual advertiser usually can't dictate such things of the site they are advertising on. But who knows? Next time it happens you should view the source to see how they're doing it.
Also, it could be java. I always have java turned OFF and I have NEVER ever once missed it.
Course, it could always be satan too.
