"Fun Facts" from the White Castle site:

1921 - the first White Castle opens in Wichita, Kansas, offering hamburgers at the unbelievable price of $.05 a piece.

1949 - five holes are added to the burger after a White Castle employee notices that the five holes help the patties cook faster and more evenly.

1986 - The Smithereens,a New Jersey rock group, write a song called “White Castle Blues,” which appears on their debut album.

1994 - Se habla Slyder®! White Castle products are exported to Mexico.

Now *that's* a turnabout on Montezuma's Revenge, ain't it?

I'm old enough to remember when the burgers were a dime each, so that dates me significantly. I can recall gasping when they leapt to twelve cents. And the "shake" was twenty cents.
