53. "slapstick" by Kurt Vonnegut.
Listen, I know Vonnegut is a hero too many, and I agree wholheartedly with his political views, but I have always found his literature cloying, precious, and unmoving. "Slapstick" in particular was so fucking cutesy ("Hi-Ho." every eighth paragraph; ugh, spare us, oh clever one...)

Runner-up:
The Updated Book of Rock Lists, edited by Dave Marsh, 1993
The first was great, but Marsh has turned into the "grumpy old trivia expert" (in the words of Joe Carducci) since its publication. Marsh's odd opinions dominate the book, and render it unreadable to anyone except those who share his view that music should be subservient to politics.

"Case Closed" by Gerald Posner

Because it is complete shit.
