40. It can be bad! There are some really nice lofts in downtown though...
try craigslist (www.craigslist.com) and westside rentals (www.westsiderentals.com). You have to pay for westside rentals, but its usually worth it (Its $60 for 60 days, but we found our place in a week).

When I had to find housing when I was at UCLA, I found it through westside rentals, and now we've found our current housing through there as well. We gave up trying to find housing near USC, its just not a good area, so we decided to live further north and I'll commute down there.

Some advice, if you live near the subways or the metrolink and can take them to work, they are very safe and that's a good option. Go to www.mta.net and www.metrolinktrains.com to check it out.

If have any more questions, please PM me and I'd be glad to help in anyway I can. Moving to LA can be very difficult, I've had a hard time and I've lived in Southern Cal all my life!
