Rant: CNN.com and the sports headline
Advertisements [?]
I check out CNN.com every morning. I peruse the various segments and their headlines.

For the past few weeks (though it feels like months), under the Sports headline there is always one sports item and another item that discusses that day's SI swimsuit model.

I am pissed on many levels about this:
first of all, swimsuit modeling is not a sport. Hence, it should not be a sports item. Secondly, I am sure I am not the only woman who reads the sports headlines and I find this obsession with swimsuit models to be one-sided (to men) and sexist. I am sure we won't see Men Of Basketball swimsuit edition in the sports section anytime soon.

I understand that the sports section is in collaboration with Sports Illustrated (with its swimsuit edition), but again, maybe they should create their own space on the webpage.

Anyway, I wrote a little letter to CNN.com, pointing out my objections to swimsuit models being featured as sports headlines. I do not think I am making too much of this. I know that most sports fans are men and that sports headlines cater mainly to them. However, this does not mean they should exclude a minority of non-men (i.e., women) who are just as passionate (if not more) about sports and could not give a hoot about the latest swimsuit-wearing digitally-retouched bimbo.
