Re: what you said about giving birth -- no need to apologize -- a couple of women I know who are moms and authors have told me that the parallels are strikingly similar. (I should give you a heads-up about the post-partum thing as well - don't be alarmed if you feel a bit deflated or frustrated for awhile, after you've wrapped up this project.) One of them told me, after seeing her (printed) opus in the university bookstore, "at least I didn't have to pay the big bucks to send it to college -- and I didn't have to wait for 18 years either!"
