23. But what Clinton did was no worse that what many Presidents before him had

done. The difference was that the Right Wing had already put into place a "vast right wing conspiracy", as Hillary so astutely called it, that was ready to pounce on him. The rightwingers and their media stooges had started in on Clinton way before Monica. Remember Whitewater and all the other scandsls they tried to dredge up from Arkansas? They hated him from day one. They had planned for Poppy to have been a two-term President and Clinton messed that all up for them, with a lot of help from Perot, of course.
Clinton should have seen them hiding in wait for them, and been shrewder, but all men in that position have egos, and I do not believe that there has been one President since FDR that has not screwed around(except maybe Nixon..who would do it with him?). Everyone knew that JFK was screwing around, but it just was not written about back then. He made Clinton look like a saint! The difference is that Clinton did not have J. Edgar Hoover around to protect him.
In a way, Clinton was doomed from the minute he won the first time. The rightwingers were going to get him one way or another.
