8. My daughter and I were just talking about boob jobs
this afternoon. She was paging through People magazine, which prompted the conversation.

I told her I thought it was a little sad that so many people have fallen under the plastic surgery spell. People with perfectly normal, nice-looking bodies decide that they aren't good enough and they have to go under general anesthetic, get cut open, and have foreign objects inserted into their bodies. It's also sad to see how many lookalikes there are with the same boobs, the same foreheads, the same lips, and the same teeth. Many, many women who all look the same, like dolls.

Beauty comes in all shapes, all sizes, and all features. I wish modern women could be more accepting of unique differences.

I have no desire whatsoever for a boob job. I *would* like my teeth to be whitened (years of coffee and red wine, plus all the smoking I did between ages 17 and 32), but I wouldn't get a neat row of veneers to accomplish that.
