16. Ad aware
will strip out most locally installed pop up crap. Be sure to update it each use. It is free. The google toolbar does a good job blocking pop ups and is free. You can block 3rd party cookies but that can mess up sites like ny times.

If your search bar is screwed (pointing to crap search engines) up there are browser jack tools.
