Reply #64: Red Barchetta - Rush

There have been three Ferraris to wear the name Barchetta.



This is the first, the Ferrari 166 Barchetta. Barchetta is Italian for "open car"; Ferrari Barchettas are not convertibles. A convertible has a roof that can be erected when the need arises; a Barchetta has no roof. (One is expected to own a car with a roof for wet-weather use and to look at the sky before taking his Barchetta for a drive.)

I can't find a photo of the Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia Barchetta. It's supposed to be really sweet, though.



This is the latest, the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina.

Given that, I think I know what the protagonist's uncle did in the days before the Motor Law--he had to have been a machinist. Italian cars are hard enough to keep running now; imagine trying to do it with no parts available!
