Permanent weight loss requires lifestyle changes in both diet and exercise habits. Both free weights & some type of cardio. If you're going to spend only a little time in the gym, stick with the 'big three' exercises for maximum productivity with heavy weight: the squat, the deadlift, and the standing overhead press. Skip the isolation machines and find a good teacher. On off days go for a run or swim. Even 15 min a day can help, so squeeze it in, plus to the 'little things': park further away & walk to a destination, take the stairs fast, etc. etc. Being in great shape feels fantastic - you sleep better & easier, have more energy, think more clearly, you name it.
