The native flora (tree ferns) and indigenous people (Polynesians) came from Oceania, not North America.

There is, however, a mystery surrounding how the sweet potato made it here from South America. We do know that the voyaging canoes were capable of at least 2,000-mile journeys, else Hawai'i would have been uninhabited (rather than uninhibited! :-) ) when Capt. Cook showed up.

Besides, if we were North Americans, you would've flirted with at least some of us by now! It's cruelly apparent that (like most mainlanders) you find me too, well, different -- but there's always Opihi, or oasis, or...
