TORONTO --
A Bush visited Canada on Monday, but it wasn't the one everybody has been waiting for.

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush spent the day in Toronto promoting travel to his home state and talking up close ties between the North American neighbors despite strains between his brother and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.

President George W. Bush postponed a planned trip to Canada in May, with little chance he will reschedule before Chretien steps down in February. The men have been at odds over the war in Iraq, which Chretien refused to support, and economic and trade issues.

Jeb Bush, a Republican like his brother, avoided discussing the friction Monday, instead emphasizing the close ties between the countries and the importance of Canadian visitors to Florida.

"We're as close as close can get," he said. "That doesn't mean the ruling parties or the people in power have similar views on specific issues."
