we should get rid of the "evil socialist entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance. That these programs are popular doesn't stop them from preaching against them and urging "privatization." Rush Limbaugh and the other RWers on radio are putting this message out all the time as well as encouraging hatred of the lower class, a clever way to deflect more reasonable anger at the rich who keep prices high and pay low.
"Generations of Americans have been conditioned to believe in capitalism, and to fear socialism. It is almost a conditioned response the way most Americans react with horror to anything that has the "Socialist" label. What Americans value about the so-called "free enterprise" system are its socialist components: minimum wage, workplace safety, social security, unemployment insurance, etc. "
