Well, when I was little and I first asked my mom what Democrats and Republicans are, she put it this way: "I'm a Democrat, and your father is a Republican. Republicans are for business, and Democrats are for the ordinary people". I was probably 4 or 5 at the time, so it didn't really make sense to me. When I was in 1st grade, we had a little school election for President. I voted for Bush, just because he'd been the President for as long as I could remember. I remember being surprised that Clinton got so many votes. Perot got a few as well.

For some reason, I remember thinking that if Bush won my school election, he would still get to be President of my school even if he lost to Clinton, who I didn't know. That made me feel better. When Clinton won, we all wrote him letters. I remember thinking how cool it would be for the new President to read *my* little letter I wrote in marker. I think ever since that special connection, I've been a Democrat :)

When I was in middle school, I defended the intervention in Kosovo, even when some blowhard jerk was blaming Clinton for giving stealth-bomber technology to the Chinese and Russians. Another one of my friends tried to convince me that we were right to intervene in Kososvo, but that we were "on the wrong side". I had more important things to worry about though.

On edit:
One more thing. After I graduated, I got in a knock-down, drag-out fight over politics with a classmate on instant messenger. It went on for over an hour. When it was over, I was very frustrated but satisfied. I thought I had lost because I didn't make the other guy see things my way (like that was going to happen). He never even said "Ok, FINE" like so many people do when I'm done with 'em (I don't like to let them wiggle off the hook ;) ).

A few months later a mutual friend, who is a target of both our political proselytizing and a focus of our affections, told me "Hey, so and so told me he blocked you after one of those political arguments you had". I smiled and said, devilishly (so as to impress her, of course), "I won!"

Yeah, it's worth it
