13. I remember;
delivering newspapers in the late 60's and early 70's. I read the front page as it was the only thing for a kid my age to do in the afternoon considering the circumstances. One of group of headlines that caught my eye and has remained with me all these years is that they used body counts extensively back then. So many Viet Cong killed vs Americans killed. It seemed to me to be like so many baseball box scores. After the war, it was shown that most of the figures for the 'enemy' were vastly exaggerated. I remember the picture of that naked young girl running toward the camera, crying, because she had had napalm land on her. I remember that South Vietnamese soldier with an outstretched arm holding a pistol to a bound Viet Cong's head milliseconds before the shot. I remember pictures of the last helicopter taking off from atop the US embassy symbolically ending our commitment there. I don't want similar bad memories haunting my children's mind. End the war. Soldiers come home!:cry:
