22. While remotely possible, I don't think it's likely.

Of the reasons for 'martyring' him, the prospect of him running around loose as an ex-pResident without the support staff (enablers) and campaign audiences (his narcissistic supply) is very high. While he's still nesting in piles of taxpayer money and huge numbers of 'security' personnel that keep him isolated and insulated from the realities of his existence, he's far more controllable. (I personally think he's had some "near mini-meltdowns" that they've handled at Camp David and the Pig Ranch.) When combined with the 'market value' of the "Honored Dead" and the probable herd-instinct in confronting whatever external threat is designated as the primary scapegoat, the act of martyring him at that time is highly likely, imho. If the Reich deems it necessary to cash in on that market value early - like summer 2006 - then the remaining two years (2007/8) are even more ominous than heretofore contemplated... for both 'sides.' IOW, both the 2006 General Election and the remaining two years become subject to an order of magnitude more socio-political chaos than we've yet considered.

OTOH, if Cheney continues to become more visible and publicly active, as he has for the last couple of weeks, then the 2006 thesis (preceded by preemptive pardons) becomes more contemplatable.
