We would have already read the report. Just how long do you investigate only to say nothing happened? Six months? Twelve months? Eighteen? The longer the investigation lasts, the less likely that it will be for naught. The notable exception is the Clinton business, but we all know that that was more political assassination than criminal investigation. I think we can safely rule out political assassination as a motive here.

Those who claim that nothing will happen don't seem to be paying much attention to events or to what little information is leaking out. Indeed, the dearth of information is in itself important information. Nothing about Fitz's investigation smells like "no action will be taken". The drip-drip-drip of small revelations speaks loudly that not only is Fitz taking on the tiger, he has it firmly in his control.
