It's non-profit, listener supported radio.

AAR is exactly the left wing version of right wing talk radio...and it's prime purpose is to entertain. To do that it needs to support itself financially.

If you want informative radio, look on the education band or around the internet...that's where you'll find the Amy Goodmans and others who feed the facts that are played with on AAR.

From one whose put in most of his life in the "radio biz", I have a love/hate relationship with commercials...especially the obnoxious ones. I wish AAR stations were so successful they didn't need the massive volume of advertising...charging more for less. But that's not the case.

It's in a marketplace that is suffering financially...behind local and cable TV, newspapers and now the internet in a very poor economy. They need every dime they can shake out of the trees...especially since most AAR stations are smaller signals and ratings aren't high.

Having any AAR is sure a lot better than having none at all.
