9. My email to the author of the article
Rev. Peterson,

I wanted to respond to the article you wrote on World Net Daily. I would have thought some hateful, white supremacist wrote that article. It's full of stereotypes, falsehoods and half-truths, plus it's just downright hateful. You obviously have very little knowledge of the true situation of the people New Orleans. 80% of the residents left the city, those left behind had no transportation to leave or chose to ride out the storm.

The city was fine until the levee broke and flooded the area. The people who were stranded would have helped themselves if they could have, but they couldn't. They just needed help and didn't care where it came from. Most of the people stranded were hard working just like anybody else and shouldn't be insulted. It wasn't just black people who needed help, white people were in need too. By your logic, I guess the elderly residents of St. Rita nursing home were lazy, immoral bums for not evacuting even though they had no way out. People who had no way out should not be blamed.

I'll tell you this about Mayor Nagin. He did not yell at President Bush for not doing Nagin's job, he yelled at him for not doing the federal government's job. Residents were put on buses and evacuated by the city. When it was time for the FEMA to respond, they dropped the ball. Not just in Louisiana, but in Mississippi as well and all those local officials cannot be blamed. It seems to me that Republicans like yourself are the ones screaming at the local officials for not doing the Federal government's job.

As for your morals argument, it's irrelvent. Being poor is not immoral, it's something that happens. The American people obviously don't share you views, because it's shown in their generous outpouring of support that has been colorblind and non-judgemental. Such ignorance and intolerance displayed by people such as yourself against the victims of a disaster is un-american and a person with your title should be trying to help the victims heal instead of blaming them. I mean you no disrespect, but I really found the article offensive.

Thank You
