45. My suburb is blue blue blue

We have over a million people. We have just graduated our first high school class - county wide - that is less than 50% White. We lead the US in Minority Student test scores. On Pollution Alert Days, our Bus System offers free rides. Many of our buses run on natural gas. We are experiencing low income white flight, partly because many of these folks will not live in Hispanic neighborhoods and partly because it is very expensive to buy a house here. We have a high concentration of PhDs and other researchers as well as a large concentration of professionals, yet we still maintain enough diversity to have achieved the high school figure pointed out above. The human genome project is headquartered about five miles from my house. We just opened a $100 million world class concert hall. We have set aside tens of thousands of acres as an Agricultural Preserve. Newsweek just listed five of our public High Schools among the nation's 100 best, and I think nearly all of them made the top 1000. We used to be the "wealthiest" county in the nation, but, as we made room for lower income people, we dropped, I think we're still in the top ten or twenty.

This is all in a place with great diversity and energy. Oh, and we also have some Mega Churches too, as well as a Mormon Temple that looks eerily like the Emerald City..........
