I voted for this: U.S. should intervene in other countries to prevent crimes against the people who live there/genocide/provide peacekeeping personnel (unilateral if necessary).
because there might be a time when even true efforts (not Bush-like efforts) to get multilateral or UN participation failed for some reason or other. We would then have to make up our minds if the situation was serious enough to where, ethically, we had to do it by ourselves.
The backing of the international community matters greatly to me and I would demand real efforts to get such backing, not cynical grandstanding and attempting to undercut the UN, as Bush did and continues to do.
For example, during the Nazi years, had I been a sentient being and known what was happening (born in 1943) and had, for some reason the international community been unwilling or unable to act, I would have supported our unilateral action to stop the murder of so many people.
