You've inspired me with this post.
To those who are mourning the Pope, you may want to go pray for me now in your religious forums. He's been dead long enough. I can't take it any more. I'm getting ready to tip toward the "I'm going to hell happily" side of the moral scales. Kid gloves off, boxing gloves on.

"Hate the sin, love the sinner" is the mentality that got me raped. Point blank. Plain and simple. Period. End of story. It is THAT mentality that has caused me ALL the mental anguish in life that I have had up until this point. I've been extremely respectful all day long about the Pope's death, but the avalanche that happens when hate speech happens, even that disguised as "love" by many Christians, who blast gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, and transsexual people every fucking chance they get, btw, is EXACTLY what caused Matthew Sheppard to be bludgeoned to death as well. Not to mention tons of other violent acts. And don't even get me started on how nonviolent but nonetheless hostile acts cause pain and grief to gay people as well. And I believe it is that pain that lingers longer, does more damage to more people, and is the hardest to overcome. Any therapist who deals in abuse and the damage it does will tell you that bruises can heal assuming none of them are life threatening at the time, but continual emotional pain does WAY more damage to those who still live with it. As long as religion exists, we will not be able to heal or live without fear. After all, Matt's killers justified their homophobia because our society as a whole is fine and dandy with it. The people who held me down to be raped are STILL VERY PROUD of their religious views and what they did to me.
And let's not even get started on what religion has done to women. I'll be here all night long on one post if I go off there.
